New York Times Article
While reading the New York Times yesterday I stumbled upon this wonderful article on Midtown Memphis' indie music scene. We are, as you Know and our banner reads, a Memphis music blog.
Back Up & Kickin
Hey, sorry about that sixth month hiatus. I would love to tell you the team behind SMS (us) spent that time in introspective isolation in a forgotten monastery three kilometers southwest of the Tibeten city of Lhasa, but sadly that was not case...
Fortunately, one of our favorite artists has been busy. Ted Leo is working on an upcoming album, The Brutalist, which is set for release on March 9th, 2010.

LCD Soundsystem: New Song
LCD Soundsystem's new song, Bye Bye Bayou is streaming at 22tracks.com
Its a repetitive psychadelic electronic rock song just like the ones LCD Soundsystem has becomes known for, but with an environmental twist.
It's about the loss of the Louisiana Wetlands.

DJ Rupture confirms new album
DJ Rupture is releasing a new record called Solar Life Raft out on Agriculture Records on November 11. Matt Shadetek is co-producing the new record which contains "about 30% of its original material and remixes from us".
Rupture has the ability to blend music from a variety of genres in a way few others can match. This should be a great release. Here is a music video of Baby Kites and Nokea from Uproot.

not Seeing Dead Weather in NYC
Since my last post I have quit my boring summer job at a poorly managed coffee house to write full time for SMS, study Russian, and travel a bit. My first stop after my temporary retirement was NYC.
While I was in NYC from July 15th-19th Jack White set up a temporary record store in the East Village to celebrate the release of Dead Weather's new album. The band also played a set on that Wednesday, but I couldn't make it. I did manage to snag a few shots of the set up while I was in the area.
If you haven't already heard Dead Weather is a new groupComprised of Alison Mosshart (of The Kills and Discount), Jack White (of The White Stripes and The Raconteurs), Dean Fertita (of Queens of the Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (of The Raconteurs and The Greenhornes). Here is a picture of the two day record store, Third Man Records.
I also took a couple quick shots of the line wrapping around the bloc.
But Wait let's take little closer look at the red sign on the left...
mmmm.... situational irony....
