S.M.S is going to NYC or more specifically Coney Island for this years Siren Music Festival. The free music festival is put on by the Village Voice, an NYC news/entertainment publication. This years lineup doesn't quite compare to major music festivals, but is impressive nonetheless. My personal favorites on the lineup are Built to Spill, A Place to Bury Strangers, The Raveonnettes, and the Japandroids. A Place to Bury Strangers is a great NYC-based band with Joy Division style vocals and an incredibly loud and psychedelic set. The Raveonnettes are a Velvet Underground influenced Danish-Duo who are making some great distortion-laden pop songs. The Japandroids are a Canadian rock band with an awesome name. They have been getting a lot of hype from places like Pitchfork and All Songs Considered.
